EdTech SaaS Products

Details

As the lead designer at K16 Solutions, I took on the challenge of crafting data-rich, user-centered designs for ed-tech SaaS products aimed at modernising educational technology infrastructure, adding value and ease to administrative workflows, and improving education insights across a variety of higher ed institutions. My role covered the full product development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, with a special focus on usability and seamless cross-functional teamwork. Working on multiple products within an intensely fast-paced environment, my team and I constantly pivoted to stay first to market while ensuring we delivered a well-thought-out, visually engaging, and intuitive user experience.

Objectives

Our key objectives were to create a platform that could handle complex, data-rich information in a way that was visually appealing and intuitive, ensuring users could quickly access and interpret the data they needed. A user-centered approach was essential, so we engaged directly with educators, administrators, and students to understand their workflows, pain points, and specific needs. This insight drove every design decision, aligning our goals with real user expectations. With multiple products under development, it was crucial to streamline communication and collaboration across departments, ensuring all stakeholders, developers, and managers were on the same page. Finally, we aimed to stay ahead of competitors by iterating rapidly and responding to feedback, keeping our process agile to release innovative solutions within tight timelines.

Challenges

Several challenges arose during the project, each requiring creative solutions and adaptability. Managing data density was a major focus across multiple products—presenting extensive information without overwhelming users required a well-planned hierarchy and interactive elements like cohesive design systems, intuitive user flows, and additional help like tool tips where necessary. This allowed users to explore data at their own pace, or be guided through a workflow without cluttering the main interface. The fast-paced, iterative environment also posed a challenge, as balancing multiple projects with strict deadlines meant we had to prototype, test, and refine designs quickly. By following a lean, iterative approach, we could pivot and adjust as needed, ensuring continuous progress. Another challenge was maintaining focus on user needs amidst the rapid pace; we prioritized regular iterating with feedback to keep the user experience at the forefront of our work.

Outcomes

K16 Solutions’ ed-tech SaaS products were met with positive user feedback, with educators and administrators reporting improved ease in managing and interpreting data. The design system we developed streamlined cross-team collaboration, reducing handoff time and ensuring consistency across products. This cohesive visual and functional approach not only improved internal efficiency but also bolstered user trust and engagement with the platform. Our agile, user-centered approach enabled K16 Solutions to maintain a competitive edge, positioning the company as a leader in innovative, user-friendly ed-tech solutions.
